Synthesis of reactive phosphorus-based carbonate for flame retardant polyhydroxyurethane foams

Polyurethane (PU) foams are widely used for many applications, however the use of toxic isocyanate monomers their synthesis has recently led researchers to non-isocyanate PU foams. The most promising alternative is aminolysis cyclic carbonate which yields polyhydroxyurethanes (PHU). Nevertheless, obtained suffer from significant flammability and require introduction flame retardants improve retardant properties. Hence, this article demonstrates first PHUs containing phosphorus-based retardants. were allowed react with prevent any leaching Moreover, several structures carbonates analyzed in order determine influence aromatic rings on both thermal stability mechanical properties by thermogravimetric analyses, differential scanning calorimetry dynamic analyses. studied a cone calorimeter pyrolysis combustion flow calorimeter. best results foam 2 wt% phosphorus two structure. Cone analysis showed total heat release 13.1 KJ.g?1 versus 19.1 DOPO-free foam.
